Dr. Mike Katz for U.S. Senate

Dr. Mike Katz is a physician, business owner, public servant, family man, and man of faith who has spent his life caring for people when they are most vulnerable. He earned his Medical Degree and MBA in International Business from Georgetown University. Over two decades as an anesthesiologist and pediatric critical-care specialist, he cared for tens of thousands of patients — from fragile newborns to seniors — earning the trust of families in their most difficult moments.

Medical Career

Dr. Katz earned his Medical Degree and MBA in International Business from Georgetown University. He served as an anesthesiologist and pediatric critical care specialist at A.I. duPont Hospital for Children — treating tens of thousands of patients, from fragile newborns to seniors, over more than two decades.

Recruited from Boston Children's Hospital in 1996, Dr. Katz built his practice and his family in Delaware. All three of his adult children were born and raised here.

Family & Faith

Dr. Katz and his wife Trish have been married for 39 years. His faith is central to his life and his commitment to servant leadership — placing others before self, and community before politics.

He has volunteered throughout his career in schools, clinics, and community organizations across Delaware.

"Delaware families deserve a Senator who fights for them — not for party bosses or D.C. special interests. That's exactly what I'll be." — Dr. Mike Katz

His Journey: Democrat → Independent → Republican

Dr. Katz's path is not a contradiction — it is the story of a man who has always put people above party, and who has followed the evidence wherever it leads.

2009 — 2013

Delaware State Senate — Democrat

Elected to the Delaware State Senate in a traditionally Republican district — as a Democrat — Dr. Katz immediately established a record that defied party lines: term limits, government restructuring, lobby reform, and fiscal accountability. Even Democrats told him he governed like a Republican.

2024

Independent Senate Campaign

Concerned about growing polarization and one-party rule in Delaware, Dr. Katz ran for U.S. Senate as an Independent — placing people above party. He earned nearly 20,000 votes across party lines, demonstrating the cross-party coalition he can build.

2026

Republican Candidate for U.S. Senate

After watching the Democratic Party's direction diverge further from Delaware families' real needs, Dr. Katz made a deliberate choice: to align with a party now focused on fiscal responsibility, limited government, and individual liberty — and to build the coalition needed to defeat Chris Coons in November 2026.

Ronald Reagan was a Democrat. Donald Trump was a Democrat. The Republican Party is stronger when it earns converts — especially those who bring a lifetime of service and a record to show for it.

"I've always been very conservative, fiscally responsible, limited government. Look at what I've done throughout my career since the early 90s. Even when Democrats were telling me I governed like a Republican, I kept doing what was right for Delaware." — Dr. Mike Katz

In His Own Words

On Past as Democrat
“People need to think and listen and talk, if they have the opportunity to sit down with me and talk to me and ask me questions. And you know, I've offered to meet with anyone and everybody up and down the state for coffee, one on one or one and how many want to get together, but if they have concerns, I mean, one look at my record, even when I was in the State Senate as a D look at my record. I've always been very conservative, fiscally responsible, limited government. I mean, you and look at what I've done. You know, throughout my career, since the early 90s, people need to look beyond the sound bites.”
“I actually was elected as a Democrat in probably one of the more most Republican districts in the state at that time, it was the fourth Senate, it was actually Charlie Copeland's seat. So Charlie Copeland stepped down, and trying to remember what he ran for at that point, or he may have just stepped down, and it opened up. And I, you know, I was involved with the Medical Society PAC as actually chair of that, and I think I was the only D on the whole PAC, but I was the chair of it.”
“It's interesting people say I was a Democrat, but when I was in Democrat caucuses, they were screaming and yelling at me around the table that you're Republican. So Democrats tell me I'm a Republican.”
“And so what I hope is just for the opportunity. People may have some preset ideas or thoughts. You know, they say he's a D's and I's and R will, why not talk to me about it? The reasons why I was an Independent, because I always put people above party, and I was really concerned about the divisiveness in Delaware, especially, you know what's going on with the Democratic Party, how it's driving us into the into the gutter. So I mean, if people have the opportunity, if they have concerns, especially as a delegate, I would hope they feel they have the responsibility to be informed. So I all I ask for is the opportunity to sit down with them and talk and listen to them, what are their concerns?”
On Fundraising
“I've been involved in fundraising nationally since the 90s, with initially through organized medicine, through the American Medical Association, and, you know, they have 50 state organizations plus, and then through my specialty society in anesthesia, which is very active. And then also through faith-based organizations nationally and business organizations.”
On Service to the Community
“I volunteered my entire career, even growing up. We volunteered all the time in the communities — in the schools, every place I've been, we've gone in to help kids in schools and volunteered in clinics”
